In most cases the underlying problem that RESULTS in disc injury and subsequent pathology is loss of intrinsic muscle function. Basically that means certain muscles (intrinsic or stabilization muscles; the ones that keep us upright when we stand or sit) are suppose to fire milliseconds prior to movement (extrinsic muscles fire). Statistically that is not happening in the adult population.
